I'm Johanna! I'm currently a 4th year PhD Candidate at Penn State in the Toews Lab. I study evolutionary patterns and diversification in birds, specifically passerines, or songbirds. I use whole-genome data, bird vocalizations, biogeographic data, and bird coloration to parse out relationships between bird species. Additionally, as a multimedia artist, I like to illustrate my science in various media formats. While I primarily do this with scientific illustrations, I also have made short films and public murals.
I am also passionate about teaching, particularly about how we understand, perceive, and communicate science to our communities.
Feel free to contact me in regards to art commissions, teaching, science communication, or anything else!
